Good evening, Welcome to October’s meeting. Tonight John Dower will tell us all about the Spring and Autumn alpines of the Peloponnese. Where are the Peloponnese you ask? Well the Peloponnese is a mountainous peninsula island within mainland Greece but surrounded by water and connected to the mainland at just two points, Mmmm that sounds confusing doesn’t it! so we are having a geography lesson as well as a gardening lesson tonight. John Dower has been a keen Alpine Garden Society member for many years, and has been called the miniature alpine garden creator extraordinaire, so who better to tell us all about this amazing place than John, Welcome John.
The theme for our tree for the Methodist Church Christmas Tree Festival will be ‘Crafty Gardeners’. We try to dress the tree in a way to connect to our gardening club, and so we are ‘crafting’ our own decorations from living or rather now that it is Autumn, ‘drying’ leaves and other vegetation and this needs to be done by 28th November, so we hope our plans work and of course we shall let you know how it all turns out.
? In what year was the first RHS Chelsea Flower Show held?
Gwyn, Fiona and Helen Robinson have been tending some rather neglected gardens around the town. They have done an amazing job on the long border under the practice windows and also have recently managed to get funds to replace the old broken planters outside the Library, have a look next time you are around the Dr’s surgery, it has been transformed. There are a few other regenerated gardens being attended to,the triangular plot under the railway bridge by Hales is going to overhalled and Gwyn has a few more gardens in mind. We still have our 21st Birthday tree to come and that will be a beauty! Frodsham is a beautiful town but it has been unattended lately, but once Gwyn and Co have finished, it will have been transformed. Keep a look out.
Our Christmas workshop is coming round fast, we always look forward to the workshops, and we do have fun don’t we. Eleanor Griffiths will be here to guide us round the making of a Christmas Wreath. It’s a while since we last made wreaths, and I’m sure as always it will be a super fun night. The charge will be £10. As room is restricted, only those making the wreaths should come along. These workshops are the only time we need to charge, Eleanor will be bringing the spruce rings and you need to bring along your own decorations, Its always amazing to see the end result with such a variety of decorating and as always we shall take a photograph to put on the website to show how wonderful they turn out.
Our club is made up of all ages and wonderful it is too, but do you know of any younger generations who also like gardening? Are there any teenagers who have taken to gardening, your Grandchildren? Neighbours children? We would be very happy to welcome younger member to join us, so if you know of any of the younger generation let them know of us, we would love them to come and join us.
A few weeks ago, The Big Green Day Climate Acton event was held at the Community Centre and we had a stall, which considering the whole of Frodsham was gridlocked due to the new motorway bridge operations that day, visitors to the event were slightly restricted, but we did quite well considering, and made £55 and had many people asking about the club.
