Good evening. Welcome back to our new 2022/23 season. It is hard to believe that already Summer is all but gone with Autumn speedily showing its face. My goodness how the time fly’s.
Looking back to our visit to Ken Black’s garden at Mollington on 4th July, Ken and his lovely wife were so welcoming, the garden was set out with different seating areas each with plentiful clematis in all colours large and small, after browsing the garden we were pampered with coffee and cake, what better way is there to spend an afternoon.
Our speaker tonight is Barry Grain, who as head gardener at the famous Cholmondeley Castle Gardens, has also designed gardens for RHS Chelsea Flower Show and RHS Tatton Park and while Cholmondeley is a leading garden in the Cheshire gardens of Distinction, the immense knowledge of plants and gardens he has gained will surely be put to test tonight.
Here in Frodsham the Big Green Day Climate Action event at the Community Centre is on Saturday 1st October, is open from 10.00 – 4.00pm We will be setting up our stall in advance on Friday 30th September in the Community Centre between 6.00 – 8.00. If you have any ideas for items on the table for the event, please let us know, time is now short. If you have not received a poster through your door, please note the leaflet attachment sent by email for full details. Under present climate unsettlement conditions, this is quite a serious event.
Cheshire West and Chester have granted us a £700 grant to replace the planters in the community garden by the Health Centre and also on the corner garden under the railway bridge by Haile’s. We are also adopting the tub by St. Hilda’s’ Drive, we aim to plant spring bulbs and other suitable plants to brighten these rather neglected areas. This is important not just for Frodsham but again to aid wildlife and climate change.
Plans are also in operation to plant a tree in the corner opposite Netherton Hall to mark the Queens Jubilee year. With our Queens death this is now more poignant than we ever imagined it would become. We must wait for the correct time of year for planting and to wait for a sturdy suitable tree for the site. We will let you know when the tree has been selected.
Please do remember to bring any cuttings or divisions of plants to sell on the sales table for charity, if you have any smaller equipment items you no longer use, bring them along, someone will probably want them.
Now I do not mean to upset you by mentioning that dreaded word {Christmas} there, I whispered it. But Frodsham Methodist Church is having the Christmas Tree Festival again on Friday 2nd December – Sunday 4th December. We were very fortunate to win the very first festival and received a lovely trophy. Weve done it a few times and it doesn’t take much effort to dress a tree, we generally dress the tree in a s such a way to promote our gardening club, using items from nature and our gardens to make into beautiful christmas decorations, it’s lovely event. To walk into a room full of beautifully dressed Christmas trees just makes you gasp, but we could do with some ideas, but the question is, Shall we do it again?
