Good evening and welcome to our AGM and Social.
We plan to keep the formalities of the AGM as short as possible to enable our speaker Anne Harrison has ample time to tell us all we need to know about Scented Plants, Anne was a lecturer at Reaseheath College, Nantwich so she knows what she is talking about. We also must leave enough time to judge our competition. We have been having this competition for some years and it has become a fixture at the AGM now. Will you be the winner this year?
It seems to have been a particularly busy time recently. Our annual coach trip to Bridgewater Gardens was a great success, of course the garden is still very young, the walled garden which is huge in size is planted up beautifully, the Rill running through the length of the walled garden,looked great. Wandering through Middle Wood was so lovely and very relaxing and the Chinese Streamside Garden was so interesting, in fact there are so many areas to wander around, something different round every corner whilst the planting everywhere is quite full and generous with each one so different, We’re hoping to return towards the end of the year so it’s sure to look totally different.
Just a few weeks later fourteen members came to The Netherton Hall for our Birthday Afternoon Tea. Our Tea was truly excellent with so much delicious food we each took away a ‘Doggie Bag’. The Netherton really went out of their way to make the afternoon special. We enjoyed it so much we decided to make this an annual event, we don’t need a special event to spoil ourselves once a year, do we? Well, no we don’t. so that’s another date for next year to look forward to. Fiona, you did a marvellous job organising it, Thank you.
Our Charity table is always looking for goods to pass on, please don’t forget to bring your cuttings, any spare plants, plants your splitting, anything you don’t have room for, someone else could be looking for that very plant. If you have equipment in good condition, you no longer use, the charity table will be glad to have it – someone – could use it.

On Monday afternoon 4th July we are going to visit Ken Black’s at Mollington, Nr Chester, there are still a few spaces available if you or a friend would like to join us, the cost is £6.50 including cake, these afternoon visits have always been popular and if you like clematis – and who doesn’t, then why not join us.
Townfield Lane allotments have their open day on Saturday 2nd July from 12-4pm, it is truly fascinating to see all the hard work and wonderful plants in the allotments, and there is always lots of home grown veg on offer, but you will have to be quick! It vanishes quick as a blink.
Another local event is the Festival in the Park in Castle Park on Sunday 3rd July from 12.00-16.00.
At our next meeting on September 26th Barry Grain Head Gardener at Cholmondeley Castle Gardens will be here to guide us around the numerous areas of this beautiful garden, now that is something to look forward to.
