Hello, it’s good to see you again.
Have you noticed how light it has become in the last few weeks? By
three o’clock we needed the lights on, and just days later, on a fine
sunny day it was about 5.30pm before our curtains were needing to be
drawn. But isn’t it a lovely thought that Spring is on the way. Its such
a joy to see the snow drops, crocus, daffodils and lots of other
growth popping their heads up.
The Planters around town are looking rather nice, it is a bit early for
them, but a pat on the back for Gwyn and her gardening team for
looking after them. I noticed the other day a very heavy bright yellow
metal item had been thrown onto the plants under the railway bridge,
it’s such a shame people use the planters for their rubbish.
Tonight we are talking about Sweet Peas, well to be exact, Sarah
Haisley will be talking about Sweet Peas, Sarah comes from Chorley
and is a member of the northwest sweet pea society, Sarah exhibits
at lots of shows including Southport.
Visits to interesting gardens is still being debated, we’re thinking of
Jacqueline Iddon’s garden near Leyland and another interesting place
is Bents Garden Centre. Don’t forget to tell us where you would like
to visit. We always need your help.
Have you started to do some pruning? The gardens are now in great
need for a good tidy up, its also time for sowing seeds of hardy
annuals. A tidy up makes such a difference.
In our March meeting we will have Anthony Norman here to give us
‘A Practical Demonstration on Propagation’. Anthony is from Conquest
Plants, and he will no doubt be propagating hundreds of plants.
