Good evening. It’s good to have you here with us.
Tonight we have Anthony Norman from Conquest Plants who will give us a ‘Practical
Demonstration on Propagation’ This comes at a very appropriate time since many of us will be
sewing seeds and planting all sorts of exciting plants, and of course we want them to grow
into stunning plants to show off our gardens. Don’t we. I think most of us are wanting to get
cracking while the weather is good, So, welcome Anthony we are eager to find out what’s
right and wrong.
Gwyn has been working very hard again and all our trips are now booked and pretty well
organized. Our Annual ‘May Day Out’ ( which we all look forward to) is going to take us to
Jacqueline Iddon’s Hardy Plants at ‘Hazelwood’ at Bretherton near Layland, arriving about
10.30am. There is a lot of different areas to look at including a large garden studio and
conservatory and a sculpture gallery belonging to Jaqueline’s partner Thomas Dagnall. The
garden is also accessible for wheelchairs, which is so good for older and disabled people,
there is access to everyone, especially to the older generations who are so often excluded.
Jacqueline’s garden has many areas, there is the Mediterranean garden a walled garden an
alpine house and a stream-fed pond, so lots to wander around wishing it was your garden
Jacqueline Iddon’s website is; jecquelineiddon.co.uk After the talk we can sit and have our
lunch, so don’t forget to take a small packed lunch, something to drink, your raincoat (IT
WILL NOT RAIN) and a little sitter if there are not enough seats available.
After lunch we will be heading to Bents Garden Centre at Glazebury, ‘Weeping Ash Garden’
which is adjacent to the garden centre it is the largest garden centre in the area and is one
of only 29 Cheshire Gardens of Distinction, there is no charge here though admission to John
Bents private garden is by Donations which would be appreciated and will go to a nominated
charity.
The cost of this trip is £25.00 for members and non-members
Well that is May covered, then on Thursday 20th August we are going to the Southport
Flower Show, these shows are amazing, we all went some years ago, on returning home the
coach was packed with dozens of plants. There will be about 300 trade exhibitors and
endless wonderful displays of every plant under the sun. We will give you more information
about that trip nearer the time. The trip to Southport Flower Show will cost £35.00
We hope you enjoy this evening.
