Good evening and welcome to another new year of our gardening club. In fact this
is our 24th Anniversary. How fantastic is that. That means next year will be or Silver
Anniversary so we will have to think of something special for that one.
Tonight Anne Harrison will be answering the very question we have all asked ourselves
“What’s wrong with my plant?” Anne a recently retired lecturer from Reaseheath and trained
at Kew is the very person to tell us.
“Down on the Farm’ This event is on 27th September between 10am to 3pm at Frodsham
Methodist Church, this is a Scarecrow event among a few other things, and Gwyn has been
working away for a few weeks, to make our entry and he is called the ‘Gardening Scarecrow
Gwyn will be grateful for ways to dress him, so if you have any ideas, Gwyn will delighted to
hear. Some of the scarecrows will be in the Church, some will be in the garden grounds. there
will also be a small farmers market and refreshments will be available,
Looking to the future we wonder if you would like to visit the Southport Flower Show, it is
being held next August 20-23,the entrance fee is £20 plus the coach, if we get enough
names then that could be put into the calendar for next year. We believe it is strongly
recommended. We are also hoping to return to Bridgewater again to see the progress of
that remarkable garden. Please do tell us if you know of an interesting garden to visit.
Through the grapevine we have heard of a garden near Lakeland, do you know where it is?
Weve learned of a new Seed Processing Centre in Delamere, opened by Forestry England
[Lobslack Nursery and Abbots Moss Nursery} they might give talks, so watch this space
Our very own Community gardeners have been working so hard, Gwyn states it has been a
very difficult summer for community beds and tubs, but they have done a remarkable job
when plants have died or faded they have quickly replaced them. A big pat on the back to
them for keeping Frodsham looking great.
Norton Priory have a Quince and Apple weekend in October, there will be a marketplace and
activities. The Priory Garden is home to the National Collection of Tree Quince and Many
Varieties of Apple.
We will be moving the raffle back to where it was before, people missed it when at the back
of the room.
Our speakers for next month are Margeret and Neil Holding from Norley Bank Farm, you
might remember visiting there Last summer.
