Hello. Thank you for coming tonight it’s lovely to have you with us, isn’t it good to have the lighter nights again, at long last we can get into the gardens to start the tidy up after so many months of neglect, but isn’t there such a lot to do now, let’s hope we have a few weeks of decent weather coming our way, it will be great to be out in the fresh air preparing our gardens for spring.
Our talk tonight is ‘Troughs and Miniature Gardens’. John Dower is our speaker, there are few people more knowledgeable to talk about miniature gardens than John, he has been a member of the Alpine Garden Society for many years and has been called the miniature garden creator extraordinaire.
Have you sown your herbs for the annual competition yet? Don’t worry if you haven’t yet, the weathers’ just beginning to warm up so there’s plenty of time left. If you still haven’t got your seeds be sure to get them before you go tonight. This competition should be very interesting.
Talking about seeds don’t forget about Climate Action Frodsham Seed and Seedling Swap on 6th April at 2pm in the small hall of the Community Centre, there will be seeds for swapping, advice and information on all aspects of gardening. Possibly a trial of vegetable scrap sewing and hopefully a ‘Gardeners Question Time’ so lots going on there for an interesting afternoon.
Don’t forget as members, you can get 10% discount at Gleaves garden centre. Every little bit helps..
If you are going to grow some seeds for your own gardens please don’t forget to bring along any spare seedlings for our charity table, or plants you plan to split or divide, anything other members would be glad to use in their own gardens, even good quality working small pieces of equipment will be grateful.
Last month I mentioned that our website had been upgraded to a new host, PD Design in Widnes, as our previous host is retiring. Gwyn paid £132 for the year, but our website is really very good indeed.
The Community planters are all looking good, Hale’s bed, by the railway bridge has been tidied up. The bushes are flowering and the sweet William have survived the winter, the tulips are in flower too.
Our annual trip to the Dorothy Clive Garden and Bridgemere Garden Centre on Monday 20th May has proved to be very popular. We have a 49 seater, 41 people have paid, 4 more due to pay tonight and at the last check there were only two more seats left which by now might well be taken, Fantastic!
Each meeting we place a pile of RHS ‘The Garden’ magazines on the Charity table, they are there for anyone to take one, or more, away with them to read, then please bring them back to the table for the next meeting for someone else to take away to enjoy. There is no charge. All we ask is for you to return them for others to read and enjoy.
We are still in the process of finalising future speakers’, we are considering asking someone from
Gordale Garden Centre to come along and talk about their plants. Are there any particular plants you would like to learn more about? Dahlias? Roses? Fruit? Veg? Weeds! Please let us know How about future visits, where would you like to go? Where have we not been? There must be somewhere you would love to go to? Please, let us know. There must be somewhere we haven’t been to, Speak to us, Please.
