Newsletter 26th June 2023
Good Evening, Welcome to the AGM. The AGM, Is important business which will be kept to a minimum and shouldn’t take long at all, however it must be done, once done Norman Sadler RSPB Chester, will give us a delightful presentation on Garden Birds. We have seen a surge in the return of many garden birds this year, what a joy, as they appeared to have almost vanished these past few years, and so it will be wonderful to see what Norman can show us in his presentation.
Did you enjoy the trip to Bodnant Gardens last month? The Laburnum Arch which we were so eager to see was in absolute perfection for our visit, the weather was wonderful, the gardens were wonderful, the scenery was breathtaking, what a perfect day we had. What more could you ask for.
Each AGM we have a little competition, this year we had all been given a geranium seedling to grown on. How did yours go? has it done well? Are you going to be the winner? Good Luck.
The village planters being looked after by Gardening Team, Gwyn, Fiona, Helen, Yvonne and Mandy plus their two gentlemen helpers are doing a grand job considering the heat they’ve had to cope with, but the planters are all doing very well, and let’s not forget they are helping the 3rd Frodsham Cubs with the borders at the Medical Centre. Unfortunately we can’t say all is well with our planned 20th Birthday Acer, or the Oak trees. It’s now over a year since we contacted Cheshire County Council and we are still waiting to be given the go ahead. We all know how busy these departments are – but…. just how difficult is it to get permission? Talking about the planters, Gwyn and her helpers have used bedding plants for summer but would prefer shrubs or perennials which are more permanent for later months. Is that something you or someone you know could help with?
Frodsham allotments are having their open day on 8th July from 12-4pm. It’s always amazing to see the allotments, such a variety of plants, fruit’n’veg and lots more. You can stop for tea and cake, buy at the fruit and veg stalls and lots more besides. Keep your fingers crossed it’s a good day.
Don’t forget we always have the Charity table, we’ve not had much to put on it of late so please do bring along any extra/spare plants, cuttings, unwanted plants, any good unused gardening equipment taking up precious space, there is always somebody else who would like it, please do remember though that if anything you brought is left after the meeting, you must take it home with you.
As this is the last meeting of our year, I think we must thank Gwyn for all the hard work she puts into the running of the club, yes, she has other committee members to help but she does the bulk of the work and doesn’t she do well. Thank you Gwyn.
Now then. Something else exciting coming up. September 18th Our 2nd trip of the year to RHS Bridgewater Gardens. We leave Frodsham at 9.30am returning 3:15pm.. It is going to be very interesting to see the difference in the garden since our first visit a year ago.
Don’t forget your waterproof, just in case, and take sandwiches or eat in the café,
Our next meeting is on 25thSeptember when Delamere Flower Farm will be with us to talk about ‘Flowers throughout the Year’.
Don’t forget, Gleaves will give you 10% off all purchases on production of your members card.
We hope you have an enjoyable evening. Maureen Coxon, Newsletter & Advertising.
