Happy New Year to you. We wish you a very productive gardening year, with a bit of luck we just might have some decent weather this year to help us along.
Our first speaker this year is Ray Bailey, Ray has been with us quite a few times over the years and tonight he is with us at the perfect time of year as his talk is titled ‘Winter Gardening’’ and, hopefully, in just a few weeks we shall be able to begin to tidy up our gardens with all the good knowledge Ray is about to give us.
Talking of gardens, Gwyn, Fiona and Lynn Riley have been busy attending to the Community Gardens around Frodsham, at Hales corner border Mark Cooper and another generous gentleman will soon be replacing the aged plants to something more eye catching, the planters at the Library have bulbs coming up and soon colourful planting will be following. Also we are hoping soon to have a site planned for our beautiful Acer Brilliantissiumum. to remember our 20th Anniversary. Keep watching this space.
We always look forward to our Annual trip out in May, we’ve been to lots of beautiful places over the years and we always tell you in advance where and when we will go, but we don’t know where you would like to go. Plans are going very well for next season and we are trying to book speakers for September, October and November which are covering a variety of subjects. But there must be somewhere we’ve not thought about, we really do need fresh ideas just have a word with one of the committee, wo don’t bite, we want to please you. A few suggestions have been made, there’s Bodnant Gardens that could then be combined with a visit to the Welsh Food Centre which is nearby, also Cholmondely Castle Gardens, so there’s a few to have a think about it.
By next month some of you may have some cuttings to bring and sell on the charity table, don’t forget any unused equipment taking up storage space could be just what another member is looking for.
We normally ask for a few of our members to help Judy with the refreshments after the meeting closes, we would be very grateful if you could help out occasionally, could you spare half an hour to help out? Please let anyone on the committee know.
Did you enjoy the Christmas workshop? Our wreaths looked just fantastic, didn’t they, there must have been some beautifully dressed doors around Frodsham, Eleanor Griffiths and her Mother Gill did us proud, Eleanor runs the Evening Flower Club on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 7.30 here in the community centre.
We need to point out a slight misprint on your membership cards. The date for June should be 26th not the 27th, please amend your cards.
There is going to be another Climate Action Frodsham that is booked for January 26th and on June 10-18 there is another Great Big Green Week, so keep a look out for further information.
Gwyn has been busy again updating our website and gallery, it’s an ongoing task for her.
The speaker for February is Sue Beesley, her talk is about ‘Transforming Bluebell Cottage Gardens’ Sue began her career when she won the BBC Gardener of the Year some years ago and went on to buy Bluebell Cottage Garden, that must have been a huge amount of work involved in its re-invention.
