GOOD EVENING. Welcome to our Christmas meeting.
In past years we always have a Christmas workshop or seasonal presentation to get us in the Christmas mood but with Covid still hovering in the background it’s taking time returning to normal, but fear not, we have with us tonight Peter Llewellyn to talk about Mediterranean Flowers, You may have heard that Peter is the gentleman who puts plant labels in the Bates Lane hedgerows in Helsby, he intends to increase the labelling next year. Peter has also done a YouTube video on finding the Snowdon Lily which is a very rare plant and found only in Snowdonia National Park. This dainty alpine known as ‘The pride of Wales’ often blooms alone and out of reach and only in the Snowdon area.
Our speaker for January will be Jane Allison of Mayfield Plants and Garden Design in Middlewich, Jane trained at Reaseheath College and then changed a long career in teaching into her lifelong interest in plants to running her own business in horticulture. Jane specialises in cottage garden perennials from seed and propagates plants from her own herbaceous borders.
Bringing up Covid again I’m afraid. At the last two meetings we have wiped down the chairs with wipes, this month we have not done so, We don’t feel we really need to do this now as it is only adding to the pollution problem, but of course please do wipe your chair down if you feel the need, there are wipes available and if you prefer a cushion then again, please help yourself, masks are optional.
Charity Table It’s the time of year where you may be splitting plants in your garden, don’t forget to bring any cuttings along to sell on our charity table, also other unused items you no longer use but suitable for passing on, every little helps, Our charity this year is the RHS Bridgewater Garden in Salford, which we will be visiting in May for our Annual day out, that will be a really good day.
For a few years now Mary Dudson has been running the Raffle table and I’m sure you will agree that she has done us proud, didn’t she do well! But Mary has decided to stand down and has now handed her position over to Helen Robinson; we would all like to say a huge thanks to Mary for all those lovely prizes over the years and to welcome Helen to the table.
We have now completed the programme of speakers, visits, and events for the next year, in fact Gwyn & Isobel have done such an amazing job, 2023 programme is almost complete!, they have worked their little socks off sorting all that out considering the problems Covid had caused, Well done ladies. Of course all costs have risen including travel costs, but there is such a varied and interesting programme ahead, it’s good to look forward to, and so exciting.
