Hello and welcome to our October meeting and to our speaker Trevor Lawrence. ‘Chrysanthemums Direct’ is run by the Lawrence family from Knutsford who have over 50 years experience growing chrysanthemums, so there will be no shortage of information coming our way. Hopefully Trevor will also have plants for sale.
News Flash! As I write, I have just had an email stating ‘We are going on the World Wide Web! Gwynn our Treasurer and her son have done a remarkable job putting together the web site. As Gwynn herself said, ‘We are now famous the world over!’ For your information -and do check it out- our website address is’ www.frodshamgardeningclub.org To help make our site more exciting lovely pictures of our club outings will help, so do you have any group photographs taken on club trips? Gwyn would like a selection to put into future reports, they say ‘A picture tells a thousand words’ So send us your pictures.
Now I know the word ‘Christmas’ is just a little nerve wracking this early, but next month we will be doing our Christmas Wreath workshop, we always have lots of fun in our workshops and this should be no different. As we are going to do a Christmas Wreath you should bring with you, secateurs, some particularly festive greenery, a mix of plain and variegated works best together with decorative ribbons, pine cones, favourite baubles etc, (if you can’t bring greenery there will probably be some available going spare), Members will pay £4 to make the wreath, or if you prefer, you can just sit and watch. A sheet will be passed around tonight for you to say which you want to do. Florists, Jayne Marsh and Catherine Carter will demonstrate how to make a festive Wreath suitable for a front door or perhaps to place on a loved one’s grave. Jyane has her own florist business in Ormskirk and has won many awards for her design work.
Up and coming events: September 12th 2015 Horticultural & Craft show is in the making, it will be good to have this sort of event back in town again, keep an eye out for notices. Frodsham Christmas Parade and Craft fare in the Church Hall, 29th November. Norton Priory, 30th November 11-4pm Christmas Fair, gifts, local produce and crafts in the medieval undercroft, Entry £2.
Don’t forget, as members of the Gardening Club you get 10% off at Gleaves Garden Centre.
If when splitting plants and you have some to spare, don’t forget our charity table, also if you have a glut of homemade jams and pickles they too would benefit our charity.
We asked last month if you knew of a garden centre who accepted empty pots, the only one we can find so far is Dobbies at Speke, who gladly took mine.
Glenys Griffiths who was a member of this committee sadly died two weeks ago. The proceeds of tonight’s raffle & charity table will be donated in her memory to ‘Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis’.
