Good Evening, It’s good to see you again, This evening Jane Allison has come to talk to us about
“Banquets for Bees and Butterflies’. Jane runs a small private cottage garden nursery in Stant-
horne, Middlewich Cheshire, She is also a garden designer and a popular speaker at Garden
Societies, her nursery specialises in a wide variety of home-grown herbaceous perennials and
has a particular interest in varieties of Digitalis and Geranium. We are having little snippets
of spring popping up now and again so Allisons talk will give us a little taste of what’s to come
in our gardens in the coming weeks.
The gardens around the community are all being tended to by Gwyn, Fiona and other members,
our oak trees are about to be planted in Castle Park but we’ve not been given a proper date so
far, and we still have no further news about planting our 21st Birthday Acer tree opposite
Netherton Hall. We will of course let you know whenever we have a date.
Have you put your name down for the coach trips yet? The first trip to Bodnant Gardens is on
22nd May, for National Trust members the cost is £20, For non NT members the cost is £34.
For our second trip on 18th September we are returning to RHS Bridgewater, it should be
interesting to see the extent of work done since our first visit. As affiliated members the
cost for everyone will be £15, Don’t miss out, get your name down for a lovely day out. More
details will follow shortly.
Plant Fairs are starting again, Ness botanic Gardens, Neston, Wirral. CH644AY, Sunday 2nd
April 10am-4pm Entry £1.00 to plant fair. Cholmondeley Castle Gardens, Malpas, Cheshire,
SY148AH. Sunday 23rd April, 10am -5pm. Reduced entry to Gardens and Fair £5.00.
It’s still a bit early for cuttings, but don’t forget when you are splitting exiting plants please
do bring some along for the Charity table, also any unused equipment others may want is always
welcome.
Next month in April, our talk is ‘Colour in the Leaf’, our speaker is Anthony Norman from
Conquest Plants Nursery. Anthony is a specialist grower of variegated and colored foliage
and has a great knowledge of how to get the most from this range of plants. There is always a
great choice of shrubs, grasses, perennials and bulbs with variegated, silver, red or bronze
leaves. Mmmm! Now that sounds just what we are always hoping for. So Anthony’s talk should
give us a few hints and ideas to bring forth all the colours of the rainbow in our own gardens.
Don’t forget we get 10% discount from Gleaves Garden Centre. Every little bit helps!
