Good Evening, A very warm welcome to the 2026/27 season of our gardening club. This is we think our 25th Anniversary of running the gardening club. It is all thanks to you for coming back each month that allows us to continue. Thank You.
To start our new year off we have Maureen Sawyer from Stretford, Manchester. Along with Duncan Walmough they created a garden called Southlands. The garden was awarded the BBC Garden of the Year for the North of England, this is open under the National Garden Scheme. Maureen will talk about ‘Made in the Shade’, we have all at one time or other been in search of a plant for a shady corner. Hopefully Maureen will have the answer.
As with everything in life nowadays, expenses are rising every day, Speakers and travel expenses are rising as well, therefore we too, need to raise our costs. You will have noticed our membership has also gone up. It is now £20 per year, which is still very reasonable and worthy of the speakers we have coming here.
Our annual coach trip, this year to the Southport Flower Show was enjoyed by 26 members and 23 visitors, Despite the weather and the coach breaking down it was still a most enjoyable day, as always.
Once again, we will be having a Christmas tree at the Methodist Church Christmas Tree Festival 4-6th December. The theme we have decided on is ‘Frosty Leaves’ the sparkling leaves with a tiny touch of berries will be very simple and effective on the dark green of the tree.
Recently Anne Wales, a long-standing member sadly died. She very thoughtfully left a very generous sum of money to the Frodsham Gardening Club. ‘To do something nice’. After some discussion we thought a lovely afternoon tea would be perfect to remember Anne by. What do you think? Can you think of something better? Please let us know.
The Community Planters are looking good, the planters by the library are vibrant and full of colour. Alas! The planter outside the Post Office vanished overnight! Gwyn wasted no time, so now the Town Clerk is on the case!
The bushes in the border under the bridge in Church Street have been trimmed back by Chris, that makes everything look better and we are going to remove some of the older plants and replace them with some new ones.
Although we have this year’s programme all decided upon, we are still looking at possibilities for future meetings. Some of the visit possibilities? Norton Priory Walled Garden, Maureen Sawyers Garden at Southlands Stretton, and maybe even Chatsworth House and Gardens, Now, there’s some good gardens to look forward to. We are always open to suggestions, so please don’t be shy in coming forward. If we don’ t know of it, come and tell us about it.
We hope you enjoy our meeting tonight, and hopefully see you next month 26th October for Gordon Baillie, Head Gardener, Arley Hall Gardens.
