Good evening. Welcome to the first meeting of 2025. If the weather of 2024 was anything
to go by then I think we will have a challenging year ahead. But we are lucky to have the
experts come to our meetings to guide us, and for our first meeting we have Emily Chandler,
Head Gardener of Dunham Massey Winter Garden to help us along.
The ChristmasTree Festival at the Methodist Church was a great success, our members
made loads of lovely decorations, and the final decorated tree was stunning. Our theme was
“Sow it and Grow it, it is surprising what you can do with empty seed packets and pictures of
Flowers & Veg. At the end of the festival the tree was taken up to Hillcrest, the residents
there were delighted with the tree.
An afternoon trip has been arranged to visit Sandymere it has been booked for June 9th at
1pm. Price £8. Weve been to Sandymere a few times now, at different times of the year so
it will be interesting to see if changes have been made.
Weve been reporting regularly on the progress of our programme, we will let you know of the
dates a little later, but for now here is a little taster of proposed possibilities. Cholmondeley
Castle Gardens to see the daffodils. Manley Knoll, Goldstone Hall and Wollerton Old Hall
Gardens, maybe David Austen Roses. Nothing is set in gold yet, but the programme is really
looking quite exciting.
We are also in discussions about our Annual Competition, this is always held on our last
meeting in June after the AGM, we have covered quite a few different categories over the
years, so it is difficult to find something different, but we’re nearly there.
Gwyn and her gardeners are still busy, keeping the planters around the town looking
interesting and tidy, the planters at the Medical Centre have been tidied and more bedding
plants have been added to fill the gaps, The Post Office planter has also been improved
Once the weather improves the border in Church Street will be tended, to brighten it up.
Most important of all is our Annual Day out in May, it is the big event of our year and will be
announced once a decision has been made.
Don’t forget we have a charity table, if you have divided some plants, or no longer neec
certain items, put them on the charity table. One of our members has a small autumn fruiting
Braeburn apple tree, the tree has to be removed and it needs pruning, at present it is
approximately 10f+ × 4ft. If you would like this tree. please contact one of the committee
for contact details. There is no charge,
Next month Richard medley, Organic Gardener, Richard is a formed Garden Organic
Advisor who trained in horticulture at Kew. So if you are interested in this, then please come
along.
Don’t forget as members of the Gardening Club you are entitled to 10% off at Gleaves

Enjoy your Evening,
