Welcome to the first meeting of 2024. Is it possible a whole year has flown by already? But let’s look on the bright side, every day that passes is a day nearer to spring, longer days, warmer days? walks in the countryside? Ah yes! Talking of the countryside, our first speaker of the year is Andrew Bonehill from The Woodland Trust. As you know there has been a great deal of trees being planted on the old golf course, if this is something you would like to do there is more tree-planting on 27th January, Times must be booked so look at the Woodland Trust website for more information. We are very lucky to live in such a beautiful part of this country, with Forests, Woods and stunning places to walk in to be in awe at our amazing countryside, Andrew, who is a volunteer with the woodland trust, will tell us all we want to know.
Considering it’s the middle of winter the local community gardens are still looking reasonably good, Head Gardener Gwyn and her wonderful helpers have planted some bulbs in the garden under the
Railway bridge so they should be coming up now and it will look great in spring. Talking of planting, if you sow any seeds for your own garden later on and if you have any spare, please bring them along for our charity table or for other members to buy, and I’m sure Gwyn would be very happy to have some donated for the community gardens.
Our annual coach trip is on 20th May. This year we are going to The Dorothy Clive Gardens and then to Bridgemere Garden Centre. We have been to Dorothy Clive twice before but it’s a few years ago now, and there has been quite a bit of work done there since then. We will leave the Community Centre at 09.30am, arriving at Dorothy Clive at 10.30am. We will leave Dorothy Clive at 12.45 arriving at Bridgemere Gardens at 1.00pm. We leave Bridgemere at 3.30pm, and all being well arriving back in Frodsham at 4.30pm.
The cost of travel will be £15. Plus £12 entrance to Dorothy Clive. This will be confirmed later. At Bridgemere if you want to see the Show Gardens there is an extra £6 charge. Confirmation of all details will follow shortly.
We mentioned last meeting about our annual competition, this is held during the AGM in’ June. We will give you three different Herbs for you to grow – The Herbs should be presented – In a single container – remember, you will have to carry it along to the meeting and home again, so keep it to a manageable size, and think hard about your container. So have a quick think and choose the three herbs you would like to grow. Good Luck.
Gwyn has received information from Pauline McCulloch from Lymm that the Gardening club there was affiliated to the Tender Shoots Network and via this they were able to attend a gardening related ZOOM talk each month. If you are interested why not give it a try.

We mentioned last month about our website, Gwyn has got figures showing how many times it has been viewed. It had approximately 700 viewings. That is wonderful and obviously it’s well worth paying for.
