Good evening, Welcome to our October meeting.
The meeting tonight is titled, ‘The Uses, Propagation and Growing of Herbs’. Presented by William Woods. William is the owner of Blackbrook Herb Gardens in Wilmslow. The garden centre covers a range of topics including culinary, historical and traditional uses of herbs. The garden centre is a small specialist nursery growing a range of approximately 150 herbs.
An idea has been suggested for our annual competition during the AGM, is to make a mini herb garden in a container using maybe 3 herbs, give this a little thought whilst William Woods gives his presentation about herbs tonight. And if you have any ideas to improve this idea, then please speak up and tell us. We want to know what you want.
The committee members who have been working on the community gardens have been busy as usual tending to various gardens and pots around Frodsham . The planters by the library have been looking really super over summer, it’s just a pity that some people use these planters as rubbish bins. The Pansies by Hailes are quite beautiful and the Sunflowers are huge! Future plans include the planting of lots of bulbs and other winter planting. What a grand job they are doing for our town.
Climate Action Frodsham Event is on Saturday 4th November from 2 to 3pm. ‘Politicians Warmer Homes and Renewables’ with Mike Amesbury MP and local CW&C councillors. For more information go to www.climateactionfrodsham.com
Plans for the 2024 programme are gradually coming together, there are some interesting speakers and a few very interesting visits being decided upon. Here are a few possibilities. Plas Cadnant (The Hidden Gardens) near Beaumaris. The Committee decided that next year’s visit will probably be to Bridgemere followed by the Dorothy Clive Garden, The planning for this is Monday 20th May. Bridgemere has 15 show gardens, a nursery and a large garden centre. Another place mentioned Cholmondeley Castle Gardens, lots of NGS gardens in the area will arrange private visits for more than 10 people, another possible is our speaker tonight William Woods herb garden at Wilmslow.
Possible speakers and subjects are Paul Quigly from Norton Priory, another suggestion? Unusual Veg Growing! So…. It’s going to be an interesting year don’t you think?,

Our speaker for November is Kathryn Robey, Curator from Dorothy Clive Gardens, It has been a few years since our last visit but Kathryn will get us up to date with all the changes and updates
in these beautiful Staffordshire gardens.
