Good Evening. Welcome to our March meeting. At long last we are finally having longer daylight and even – lo and behold – sunshine! Isn’t it marvellous! At least we can get out into the gardens and start tidying up, and to help us on our way, Sue Clarke from Wrenbury near Nantwich is here tonight to tell us of everybody’s favourite plant, the Hardy Geranium, her talk is called ‘The Good The Bad and the Ugly’. Every garden should have a geranium, there is one for every situation and Sue is bringing plants with her, how good is that. Sue is well known as an expert on the growing  geraniums. She has been growing them for 25 years and is a holder if the National Collection of Geraniums she is a member of Cheshire Cottage Garden Society and involved in the creation of displays at the NEC for Gardeners World Live Show

In February you will remember Ken Black and his wonderful selection of Clematis, well he said we would be welcome to visit his garden. A daytime or evening visit to lovely gardens has been a regular item with our club and now that Covid is fading – slightly – would you like to visit Kens Clematis later? perhaps an afternoon? Or is an evening visit more preferable. We can only plan this if you let us know

Gwyn has been busy listing all the details on our visit to the RHS Bridgewater Garden, so I won’t repeat her good work, but do think on if you, or a visitor you may be bringing might struggle with all the walking. Mobility scooters and wheelchairs are available with a deposit of £5 which is payable on arrival. But for those in wheelchairs a helper or ‘pusher’ would be invaluable, could you volunteer to push a friend around? It would make their day.

Not only is this year the Queens Jubilee year it is also our 21st Anniversary, Her Majesty may be having big celebrations, and so will we. We have been getting our heads together and thought, perhaps in June or July, we could have our own afternoon cream tea in Castle Park. We want to make it a special afternoon and suggestions will be most welcome.  We were also thinking of planting a tree, a special little tree to commemorate the Queens Jubilee and of course our very own 21st Birthday.   What do you think. Watch this space.

In April Don Billlington will be here talking about Tropical Plants, his talk is called ‘Life on the Show Circuit with New Plants’ Don is a very popular speaker and an expert on bromeliads and tropical air plants. He has multiple gold awards from all the big RHS shows. Don’t miss it.

We are very happy to say at last, we are bringing back our tea and biscuits after each meeting, and of course if you feel safer wearing your mask then please do so.

Please enjoy your evening.
