Welcome to the 2016/17 year of our Gardening Club. We have lots of interesting speakers, some exciting trips out and lots of knowledge to be learned, we hope you enjoy our forthcoming year.
Our first speaker of the year is Rob Edwards Gardener/Designer, he studied design & horticulture at Reaseheath, has an honours degree in Environmental Sciences/Ecology and Botony and, has also exhibited at Chelsea. His talk tonight is entitled ‘Big Garden in Small Spaces’ – Mmm! Sounds like my garden! Yours too? OK This should be of interest then.
Over the years we have often pleaded for new committee members, someone who could perhaps take the position of ‘Chair’ to help run the club. To solve this problem we now have a ‘rotating chair’. There are 6 committee members who are willing to share the ‘Chair’, this should take the burden away from any one person. But should you feel you might like to join the committee, please don’t hesitate; we would love to have you join us.
How did you find the visit to Mucklestone Nursery last July? Interesting? Just a little different from the normal Garden Centre? Well Yes, Quite an eye opener don’t you think! We went onto Hodnet Hall next, the lakes were quite stunning whilst the Kitchen Garden was just fantastic, and we were all in awe at the abundance of fruit and vegetables. A short run down the road and we arrived at Wollerton Old Hall Gardens, a small compact extremely well stocked and delightful private garden. The day finished off with a yummy cream tea and by 6pm we were back home and all ready for a quick nap to rejuvenate ourselves.
A decision will be made soon about this years’ competition, at the moment it is planned to give each member a Shrub Fuchsia, We will confirm this very soon.
Christmas Tree Festival 2016. You may remember we actually won 1st prize at the competition a few years’ back and we will be entering again this year. It has been decided to call our entry ‘Edible Baubles’ and of course being a gardening club the baubles will all be from the garden or allotment, so if you have a good imaginative mind or any other bright ideas for dressing our tree, or even some actual help on the day, will be most gratefully received, please share your thoughts with us.
Quince and Apple day at Norton Priory Walled Garden is on 9th October. The new museum is now open.
Plantagogo the specialist growers of Heucheras, Heucherella and Tierellas have their open days Fri. 30th Sept, 1 & 2nd Oct from 10am – 4pm. The nursery can be found at Snape Lane, Nr. Crewe CW2 5QN.
